Art has always been a part of my life. I grew up in an artistic family: father, a photographer; mother, a potter; brother, a painter and a sculptor. While I loved playing with many art mediums, photography was the direction I chose as I settled down to start a family. In 2005, I began photographing children; my three years of teaching pre-school in my earlier days gave me the tools for playing, patience, and creativity with little ones, including pets. I am proud continue and take over Paul McMillian's, my father's, photography studio.
I am in love with not only my husband of 21 years and our son at Washington University in St Louis, but our adopted house pets. The newest addition is Charlie, our adopted Doxiepoo and Ali, a sweet terrier mix, that we have spoiled rotten...:) We also have a warren of rabbits: Freddy 10, Mattie 4, Samy 6, Briley 7 and Kate our cockatiel 9 years old. Some have been shocked that I have rabbits along with dogs, but since childhood I have had a passion for all furry, feathery, and even scaley family members. My mother frequently reminds me how upset I would be at her, because she wouldn't let me have more pets. So, I would demand that when I grew up I would have a whole room full of animals... :) Yes, so I do now! Luckily my husband loves them as much as I do! They are truly a blessing in our lives! Whether I am photographing puppies once a month to capture every small change or catching the last images of an elderly pet, these images are priceless to the whole family. I am privileged to be able to provide this art to you.
Travel photography is another love. I have been to Australia and about 25 European countries. My trips have included the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Poland, Italy, Greece, and Malta. The adventure and beauty are addictive when you are talking about travel. I can proudly say that I have the travel bug! Please feel free to visit the Boutique on our People Too VanDeusen Photography site to see or purchase a few of my many travel images.
I have won many awards from my client work as well as from my travel images. My local awards from Professional Photographer’s Association of Greater Kansas City include: First Place Wedding Album (non-master), First & Second Place Wedding Image, Best of Show, First Timers Award, and Top Ten Photographer’s Award several times. In Missouri PPA, I have won two Second Place Wedding Image, First Place Pet Portrait, and First and Third Place Illustrative. As well as four of my prints chosen by the National PPA to travel internationally and were published in the Loan Collection Book along with two images for publication in the General Book.
I have studied Digital Painting with one of the best photographers in the country. Three days of inspiration and education with the owner of Hopkins Fine Portraits out of Tulsa. I am excited to share these talents with you!!! The new process allows me to play with mixed media again. I first paint with light in the camera room creating a unique photograph, then hand paints every stroke on a computer. After the image is printed on the highest quality archival papers, I then hand paint with acrylics or oils on top of the print to complete the Masterpiece! Become our next work of art!
I can also be hired for commission pieces for photos taken by you, the client. A favorite vacation image, or that amazing candid, once-in-a-lifetime moment or maybe even that blurry or pixelated image that you love so much can all have a new life as a Masterpiece. If it has good bones, it can be an amazing painting. Imagine your image as a Work of Art!
